September 1 – The recent end to Cassini’s Saturn mission has renewed interest in the planet and it’s mysterious rings. This interest first blossomed on this day in 1979 when Pioneer 11 became the first man made object to fly by the planet. Pioneer 11’s sensors recorded the planet’s temperature as minus 292 F and discovered that Saturn is made of mostly liquid hydrogen.
September 3 – Pierre Omidyar went live with a new website, AuctionWeb, in 1995. He spent a single weekend designing the code for this online marketplace that is known as eBay today. The first item for sale was a broken laser pointer that he entered as a way to test the site. The item sold for $14.
September 4 – Google became a legally recognized corporation on this day in 1998. From a modest beginning in a California garage to employing over 60,000 individuals in over 50 countries, Google has become a leader in innovation.
